My new favorite buzz word 👀

Published 2 months ago • 2 min read

Hey heyyy Reader,

Recently I did an Implementensive® with a client who mentioned that they do custom projects for almost every client.

AKA, each client gets something slightly different from them.

It brought me back to thinking about how a lot of creative service providers like to offer custom packages, rather than have a hard and fast scope of work that everyone goes through.

Keeping it loose and offering custom packages definitely gives you more wiggle room in what you offer, because you're right, not everyone is going to want the whole shebang. Or they do plus they also want all the side deals you've got too. (we love those clients don't we? 🤩

So, if you’re finding yourself creating custom packages but you're also wanting to get more organized on how you actually get the work done, listen up.

Here's where my new favorite buzz word is going to come in — and it's a fun one (to me at least 😅).

Ready for it?

It's micro-processes.

Okay, cool word Liz… but what is that exactly?

I'm glad you asked Reader.

Basically, it’s when you take a big task or process, and break down a process into smaller, more manageable parts or "micro-processes."

For example, if you offer blog post writing and formatting for your clients, you'll have a few micro-processes that make up that whole process.

Say Client A hires you to write 1 blog post, just the copy, no formatting on their website. For them, you're going to follow your micro-process for writing a blog post.

Then for Client B, they're hiring you to write 3 blog posts with formatting on their website. For them, you'll follow the same micro-process for all 3 posts as you did for Client A. Then you'll follow the micro-process for formatting on each of them.

Since you have a process for each part of the service, if someone doesn't want you formatting things, you can easily take that out of the equation without having to completely scrap your whole process. Or if they want more of one thing (like blog posts) then you can easily follow the same process over again for each of them.

All this means that it’s not going to feel chaotic if you decide to offer custom packages, because how you complete the work will be the same.

Every time.

Ultimately, the goal is to strike a balance between offering customized solutions and maintaining efficiency and consistency in your operations.

I’ll say this right now, it’s not bad to offer custom packages. I know a lot of people who do, because, let’s face it, our clients have different needs, and not everyone wants to feel like they’re being forced into a specific box.

The goal, though, is to focus on making it easier for you to execute the project without losing your mind because you offered a different scope than you normally do. Creating standardized processes and micro-processes for smaller parts of your services will help streamline your workflow, improve productivity, and enhance your client’s overall experience with you.

I want you to make things as easy as possible for yourself, no matter what that looks like.

Remember, there's no one-size-fits-all approach, and it's essential to find what works best for you and your clients.

Til next time,

Liz

I’m really excited about this, Reader! Have you ever taken a workcation? If not, let me tell you about them — they’re revolutionary, my friend!! But first, let me back up to how I got here… The other week I was talking to my therapist about being overwhelmed and having too many mental tabs open. I made a flippant comment about how if I could just have 48 hours to myself, I could get so much done and close out a stupid amount of mental tabs… know the feeling? You’re basically Charlie. ⬇️...

Happy Sunday, Reader! I’m coming in hot with some planning for you to do today. Admittedly, I love a good Sunday planning session. So, my question for you today is — have you planned out your schedule for the year yet? I don’t mean every detail, but the big things that are going to actually take you away from work. I’m talking about weddings, vacations, summer break for your kids, anything like that. Planning it now is how you’ll be able to set yourself up for the *right* amount of projects...

Alrighty, Reader, I know I might be a bit biased here as an OBM, but certain automations should always be a non-negotiable in a business. If you're like me and are always curious about what everyone else's behind the scenes setups look like, I've got 3 to tell you about. 1️⃣ Lead management The moment someone hits that magical "Submit" button on your contact form, you've got to acknowledge their inquiry. It's a small step that can make a big impact. If you're like me and most of my clients,...
